Penelope "Penne" Jane Wright Cason's Obituary
Penelope “Penne” Jane Wright Cason, was born December 6, 1936 in Dallas, Texas to Gober Camp Wright and Linda Deavenport of Denton, Texas. She passed away peacefully on August 18, 2018 at the home of her granddaughter Lindsey in Mandeville, Louisiana at the age of 81 years.
The youngest of 10 children, Penne grew up in El Paso, Texas. After High School she married the love of her life, George Bales, and had one child, Susan Dawn. They were divorced and separated for over 40 years, but rekindled their relationship in 2003. George passed away in 2009. Penne resided in Dallas, Texas with her daughter, Susan, moving to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in 1969. She spent her professional life supporting the doctors at the National Hansen’s Disease (Leprosy) Clinical and Research Facility in Carville, Louisiana, from 1978 until 1992 and then continued her work when the research facilities were moved to the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, before retiring in 1999.
Penne loved nothing more than spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, telling stories to her grandchildren about the Indian Raids in Denton County, the once-owned family Wright Opera House (now a book and music store), being the owners of the first gas station in Denton, and the large brick mansion named the “Boscobel,” which was destroyed in a fire. Her grandchildren enjoyed listening to the tales about their ancestors, including William Crow “W.C.” Wright, a Civil War veteran. Penne loved classical and country music, gardening, watching the hummingbirds, completing her daily crossword puzzle, reading novels, and cooking. She held a special place in her heart for the state of Hawaii.
Penne was preceded in death by her parents, Gober and Linda, siblings, Barry Bell Crawford, Matthew “Buddy” Wright, Dorothy “Dot” Wright, Linda Patrick, Julianne Wright Hazard, Mary Myrtle Blanks, Gober C. Wright, John Whitney Wright, and Luppy Wright, and her daughter, Susan Dawn Carter.
Penne is survived by numerous beloved nieces and nephews, her grandchildren Lindsey Ware Piattoly of Mandeville, Louisiana, Melissa Ware Richardson and spouse, Joshua Richardson of Fort Worth, Texas, Christopher Ware and spouse, Kathryn Merry of Carrolton, Texas, and son-in-law, Charles H. Carter, of Haslet, Texas. She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren and five great-grandchildren: Audrey Richardson (11), Elle Richardson (9), Grace Piattoly (7), Jonah Ware (3), and Evangeline Ware (1).
A memorial service for friends and co-workers will be held in Mandeville, Louisiana, at St. Timothy United Methodist Church on Friday, August 31, 2018 at 7 pm. Internment and a private family ceremony will be held in Denton, TX at the Gober-Wright Cemetery at a date to be later announced. Penne will be laid to rest in the Wright Mausoleum next to her daughter, Susan Dawn Carter.
