Patricia O'Grady Sullivan's Obituary
Patricia O’Grady Sullivan, of Roanoke Virginia and formerly of Covington, Louisiana, passed away on Saturday, April 10, 2010 after a long struggle with cancer.
Born on December 11, 1930 in Flushing, New York, Pat attended Finch College for Women in NYC and Parsons School of Design in Manhattan. Prior to marriage, Pat worked as a commercial artist in New York City for Life magazine. After marriage, she moved with Captain Eugene L. Sullivan, Jr. to New Orleans, but returned to New York and bore three children, Doreen, Kerry and Eugene III (Chip). She was active in the Albany Country Club, Junior League, bowling, and leading Girl Scouts. In 1970, Pat and her family moved to Covington, Louisiana and lived at Tchefuncta Country Club. While there, Pat enjoyed golf, bridge and made many friends. She was a three time Ladies Golf Club Champion. She worked for many years at the Tchefuncta Golf Club and after hurricane Katrina moved to Virginia to be closer to family.
Pat was preceded in death by her daughter Kerry Anne, as well as her parents, Frederick and Helen O’Grady. She is survived by daughter and son-in-law Doreen Sullivan and James Garcia of Anchorage, Alaska; son and daughter-in-law Chip and Kari Sullivan of Troutville; beloved grandchildren Kalley, Camryn, and Colby Sullivan, all of Troutville, ex-husband Eugene Sullivan of Matthews, Carolina and cousins Dr. Hugh and Carolyn McGrath of Metarie, LA, Elizabeth Arrowsmith of Enfield, England as well as many friends, especially Al and Katherine Amsler of Sewickley, PA and Art and Alda Cummings of Long Island, NY.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff at Friendship Manor Retirement Home, Good Samaritan Hospice of Roanoke, and all those that kept her in their thoughts and prayers.
Arrangements are being handled by both Lotz Funeral home in Salem, VA and E.J. Fielding Funeral home in Covington, LA.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 17 at noon in Theodore Dendinger Memorial Cemetery in Madisonville, LA. A celebration of Pat’s life will be on Sunday, April 18th at 2pm at Friends Coastal Restaurant in Madisonville, LA. Friends and family are invited to attend.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made to Good Samaritan Hospice, Inc. 3825 Electric Road, Roanoke, VA 24018.
