Ouida Taylor Talley's Obituary
The world is a lesser place with the recent passing of Ouida Taylor Talley, 94. Miss Ouida was born April 11, 1928 and passed away peacefully on January 26, 2023. She was one of the last of the generation who spanned from a time before electricity, running water, and automobiles to today’s society of cell phones, computers and the internet which, like most seniors, she never really understood or accepted (although she had a cell phone and used it daily).
Miss Ouida lived a full and abundant life, being married to her beloved husband Hubert for over 65 years, raising a family of four boys, and traveling the world from Europe to Alaska and all points in between. She was a fairly accomplished artist and painter, beautician, landscaper, and interior decorator and always, always proudly maintained an immaculate lawn and home. She always looked forward to the changing of the seasons for the rich colors that her beloved flowers would bestow upon her home. Fiercely independent, she lived independently until the end and actually drove her own vehicle until very recently. Miss Ouida loved all things good in the world – babies, flowers, music, art – but the central theme of her life was her love for God, family, and country. She was proud to be a true patriot. Miss Ouida had the unique ability to remind visitors of their own beloved and departed mothers and grandmothers, and many who visited with her commented that they felt like they had been blessed to have spent a little time with their own cherished mother or grandmother.
Miss Ouida was preceded in death by her beloved husband Hubert Talley, her parents Jessie and Rebecca Taylor, her brothers Titus Taylor and Coleman Taylor, and sisters Ola Taylor Fussell, Gladys Taylor Booth, and Laverne Taylor Talley. She is survived by her sons G.A. “Al” Talley (Susan), Joel Talley (Pat), Robert Talley (Ramona), and Richard Talley (Vivian), sister Carolyn Taylor Cox (Floyd) and brother Jessie Taylor, Jr., along with 11 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and an additional 4 great, great grandchildren.
Miss Ouida was a pillar of the community and her life was a life well lived. She was loved by all, and will be forever missed by all who knew her. A special note of appreciation to Chris and Vicky, who provided much comfort, aid and assistance to Miss Ouida in her latter years.
Her funeral services will be conducted Saturday, February 4, 2023 at Fitzgerald Methodist Church, 80007 Fitzgerald Church Road, Covington, LA 70435, at 12:00 Noon with visitation beginning at 9:30 AM until service time. Formal services and interment will follow at Pilgrims Rest Cemetery, 20116 Hwy 1081 (Stafford Road), Covington, LA. A reception and meal will follow at Fitzgerald Methodist Church.
