Ouida Belle Williams Fabre's Obituary
Ouida Belle Williams Fabre passed away on Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at her home in Covington, LA at the age of 97.
She was born on June 24, 1917 in Baton Rouge, LA to the late Richard L. Williams and Janie Walker Williams. Ouida was the oldest daughter of that union. As a young girl, she was raised by her foster parents, her first cousins, Dr. and Mrs. William Christopher Murray of Baton Rouge.
Ouida was married to her beloved husband, the late Alphonse L. Fabre, Sr., for 39 years and together they had four children, Alphonse L. Fabre, Jr. (Veronica) of New Orleans, LA, Pierre M. Fabre (Kathy) of Covington, LA, Pamela Fabre West (Kenneth) of Houston, TX, and the late Eugene J. Fabre. She leaves behind 9 grandchildren and 13 great- grandchildren. Ouida was the sister of Ella W. Jarrels, Rosa W. Shelmire, the late Lucille W. Parker, Margaret W. Collins, Eunice W. Carroll, Richard Williams, Eugene Williams, and Willie Williams. She will be missed by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Ouida attended St. Francis Xavier Elementary School, Southern University Laboratory School, and Southern University earning a BA and BE degree. She was a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority. Ouida taught in Avoyelles Parish, Washington Parish, and St. Tammany Parish for fifteen years. She also taught catechism at St. Peter’s Catholic School in Covington, LA. She was a member of the League of Women Voters and the Black History Committee at St. Peter’s Catholic Church.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at St. Peter Catholic Church, 125 E. 19th Ave., Covington, LA 70433, at 12:00 noon with visitation at church beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow Mass at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens, Covington, LA.
