Opal James Grapes' Obituary
Opal James Grapes, age 101 of Houma, Louisiana entered eternal rest peacefully on morning of Tuesday, May 31, 2022 at Parkside Nursing Home in Rossville, GA surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Franklin County, Virginia on July 19, 1920 to Gordon Bennett James of Floyd County, Virginia and Minnie Ethel Martin of Franklin County, Virginia.
Opal was the beloved wife of Robert Clayton Grapes. She is survived by her two daughters Brendy K. Guillory (Vincent), and Susan Roden (Steve). Opal was the proud grandmother to five grandchildren, Vincent Guillory, Ryan Guillory, Jenny Anderson, Ashley Roden, and Kaitlin Theobald. The great grandmother to Cy, Nolan, Shailaja, Desmond, and Drew.
Opal is preceded in death by her husband Bob Grapes and parents Gordon and Minnie James.
Opal was a registered nurse in World War II and a life member of the VFW Post 872 and the auxiliary post in Abita Springs, La. She was a former member of St. Timothy UMC on the Northshore and a member of Memorial United Methodist Church in Mathews, Louisiana.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the graveside service with military honors at Mandeville Cemetery, 1609 Montgomery Street, Mandeville, Louisiana 70448, on Friday June 3, 2022 at 2:00PM.
