Norman James "Chock" Gaspard's Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Norman James “Chock” Gaspard on Saturday, May 17, 2025 at the age of 79. He was born in New Orleans, LA on June 23, 1945.
Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Wendy Bird (James) of Covington and his two grandchildren; Andrew Bird (Elizabeth) of Slidell and Sydney Bird of Mandeville; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, and many wonderful lifelong friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Murphy Pierre Gaspard and Mable Mary Gaspard; and siblings, Elliot R. Gaspard (Sybil), Eugene G. Gaspard (Dora), and Voneal M. McDonald.
Norman Gaspard lived his life with vigor. Before completing his high school education, he served honorably for two years in the United States Army. Upon his return, he successfully acquired his GED. Afterwards, he went on to work for The International Longshoreman Association Local 3000 for 34 years. He was never stagnant and even with a demanding career, he was an avid outdoorsman and always could be found hunting, fishing, and enjoying a good beer. His easy-going nature drew people to him, and he was never short of a friend. Through hard times, he was a person you could turn to and though he was not the most expressive, there was comfort in his presence.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Norman may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the memorial services at E.J. Funeral Home 2260 West 21st Ave. Covington, LA 70433 on Saturday May 24th, 2025 at 2:00 PM, with a visitation to begin at 12:00 PM.
