My sympathy to your family. T.M.(Truman)Barton notified me of Norman's death; I sent it to many Barton cousins, via e-mail. My grandmother was Mary Etta Barton, sister to William Riley Barton, Cleo's dad. I remember Cleo & Minnie. Also Robert and Earl, but not Norman, coming to visit my dad (Herman Banks, Uncle Howard & Noble when I was a youngster growing up in Hagansport, TX. We are very sorry to here about Mr Bart. We cut his grass & loved visiting with him & Mrs Bart.He always had a tip on how to grow something. Thanks for the cold cokes on those hot hot days. He will be missed. Glen & Lequita Autin
Mr.Barton was a consistent part of my childhood. My next-door neighbor , father of my very first friend and later my over the backyard fence gardening buddy. My earliest memories include him and the entire Barton family,all of whom are like family. He shared his knowledge and enthusiasm for gardening with me and I cherish those times we shared over the backyard fence. In my yard grows a pomegranate tree he gave me. He will always live in my thoughts and I think of him often when in my garden. I will miss having the option of calling him for advice on all things green, which I did. He was always home and always had an answer. A warm wonderful and down to earth man. I feel very lucky to have lived next door to the Bartons. Mrs Billyjo, Thank you so much. for everything, for just being you,for your care and acceptance of all the goofballs from next door. You and Mr Barton were the best nieghbors ever. Erin, Brian, Clinton, Adrian, Walter and Johnney I miss you guys too,was fun growing up with you. I am sorry he had to leave at what seems too soon. I'm so very sorry. I met Barton in June '54 on a Tenn. Gas Transmission P/L job just outside Columbia, La. on the Ouchita River I was a green new field engineer. Barton, old man Hunter (Doug Hunter's Dad) and Hebert were the dozer operators. This was before McDermott bought groceries for the rigs. We all ate lunch on J.E. Whitmore's spud barge #6 and chipped in a $1. I told Barton I wanted to learn to run a dozer so I could get it off my survey lines when they parked for lunch. He said OK and we went up a the D-8 and he said the 1st thing you do is get that sharpshooter(shovel) from behind the seat and clean all the dirt off those idlers so the tracks will run smooth. He was a great guy. I'll miss him too.

Norm and I worked together for only a short year, but in this time I learned to respect and appreciate his knowledge of mechnics and life. He was both a mentor and a good friend to me.
Norm inspired me to become a Brother Mason, for which, I shall be always grateful to him.
