Nicholas Frank Dischler, Jr.'s Obituary
Nicholas Frank Dischler, Jr. moved onto his next chapter on Tuesday, March 10, 2026. He was born in Lafayette, LA on November 1, 1951.
He was married to Tanya Firmin Dischler and is survived by his sons, Damon Dischler, Nicholas Dischler III, and Christian Dischler; his grandsons Owen and Luke. He is also survived by his siblings, Kathleen Wilfrath, Gretchen Dischler and Helen Dischler.
He was preceded in death by his parents Genevieve Clark Dischler and Nicholas Frank Dischler, Sr.
Nick grew up in Rayne, Louisiana, where his friends and family called him ‘Nicky’. He loved his family more than anything, from his youth to his last day. Helping his mother around the house, being a good brother to his three sisters, and making his father proud. He took pride in being a Dischler, and being a good man that represented his family the right way.
That boy grew up to be a tall, lanky goofball; stealing the show on the basketball court, in front of the camera, and the hearts of anyone who met him. His kindness was unmistakable. His capacity for love was infinite. He spent his life trying to make the days of those around him better. From falling in love for the first time, to giving us one final smile, everything about his life was about love and kindness.
Nick poured his life into his passion for wine and food. He spent much of his career in the food and hospitality industry, where his expertise and professionalism were revered by his peers. A true epicurean and certified sommelier, he was unafraid to experiment with new ideas and expand upon them. He was always a trailblazer. A culinary wizard equipped with knowledge for wine that felt unmatched. He could take one sip and tell you where the grapes were grown, their vintage, the weather the day they were picked. His skills did not go unrecognized, as he was awarded for his sommelier skills. His prowess for wine led him to compete and win in several competitions across the country; eventually leading him to visit vineyards around the world. Anyone who has ever shared a glass of wine with Nick knows what a special man he was, and how bright his passions burned. And if you had that honor, he’d want you to drink your next glass with him in mind.
His thirst for wine was as tall as he was, but Nick’s true love was his family, and that was apparent by how present he was in raising his three sons. He spent his life gifting his sons with his wisdom, teaching them what it means to be a Dischler, and sacrificing himself so that they could have a joyous life. The happiness of his family is what made him most proud. Seeing his boys enjoy success in sports, in their careers, in raising their families, it all made him beam bright as his blue eyes. He was such a gentle soul, even the hardest lessons were delivered with grace, intention, and care. He raised his sons with his soulmate, Tanya, whom he loved dearly and eternally. There wasn’t a thing in this world that Nick wouldn’t do for her. His devotion to loving her was beautiful and sincere, and when he wasn’t going behind her back to salt dinner, he was telling her how good it tastes.
He will be missed greatly. But his light shines on in this life and beyond, a testament to his kindness and gentle nature. He was filled with a passion for generosity, sincerity, and doing the right thing. Always pausing before his actions, to make sure he wouldn’t live with regrets he couldn’t make peace with. If he could talk to us today he would remind us to do the same.
Our heartfelt thanks to the Christwood staff, Southern Grace Hospice, and all the medical professionals who supported Nick with compassion and humility through his recovery and fight against his stroke.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Dischler may be made to The Stroke Foundation’s Stroke Survivor Fund.
