Nancy Armitage Troxel's Obituary
Nancy Armitage Troxell died on August 24, 2019, less than a month short of her 98th birthday, after a long, adventurous life. She was born on September 20th 1921 in Chester, PA to Dr. George L. and Edna (Mc Cutcheon) Armitage, and raised in nearby Swarthmore. After completing higher education, she became a registered Occupational Therapist. She is predeceased by her husband of 62 years, George H. Troxell, Jr., whom she met in 8th grade. They became lifetime companions.
She and her family traveled the world - initially with the Army, first to post-WWII Austria, then numerous stateside postings. The journey continued with the oil industry to New Orleans, their adopted home, and from there to the countries bordering the North Sea in the early exploration for offshore oil. In Norway, the Netherlands, and Scotland, she would quickly plant a garden and befriend the locals. On departure she'd abandon the garden but maintain the friendships. She loved and adopted stray dogs and rooted for the underdogs. She did not indulge her children, but by example encouraged them to challenge themselves and expand their horizons. She is survived by her three sons and their spouses, George H. (Patricia) Troxell III, Esq. of New Orleans, Jeffrey R. (Barbara) Troxell, M.D. of New London. NH, and R. Todd (Mary) Troxell, M.D. of Salt Lake City, UT. Other survivors include grandchildren Amy Mautz and Courtney Troxell of Salt Lake City, UT and M Scott Troxell, Esq. of Glenwood Springs, CO. and five great grandchildren. She is also predeceased by her grandson, George H. Troxell IV, Esq., formerly of Houston, TX.
In lieu of flowers, the family would most appreciate some random and anonymous act of kindness in her memory to someone in need.
