Michael F. Smith's Obituary
Michael F. Smith was called home to his Lord and Savior early morning on May 14, 2024 at the age of 77. He went peacefully, surrounded by his family. Michael was the only Son of Floyd and Catherine Hanley Smith, born in Akron, Ohio January 23, 1947.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years Nancy, daughters Kristin, Andrea, dog Roux-Bear and Granddaughter Hanley. He is also survived by his three nephews Shawn, Michael and Bobby Bailes. Michael was preceded in death by his parents and sister Francie and his beloved dog Korbyn.
Michael graduated from Barboursville High School, in Barboursville West Virginia in 1964. Shortly after graduation he decided to join the Army, where he became a Photojournalist. He did a tour of duty in the MeKong Delta during the Vietnam War Where he earned various metals. His metals consisted of The Good Conduct Medal, Army Commendation Medal Second award, Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Purple Heart Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Air Medal Expert M-14. He served three years in the service and after returning to West Virginia, he continued his education at Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia where he received his bachelor’s degree in accounting. He spent several years in industry accounting. Upon moving to Louisiana, he received his Certificate for Certified Public Accounting. In 1992 Michael set up his own CPA firm where he was the accountant to many local businesses
Michael enjoyed many things from entertaining friends, golfing, cracking jokes and music. However, his great passions in this world were spreading the word of the Gospel, his wife, his dogs and his Granddaughter Hanley.
