Melvin Anthony Ferlita Sr.'s Obituary
Melvin Anthony Ferlita, Sr., age 80, of Madisonville, Louisiana, entered eternal rest on Monday morning, January 10, 2022 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on March 1, 1941 to Gasper Ferlita and Winnie Loupe Ferlita.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Alice “Faye” Campo Ferlita. He was the loving father to Melvin Anthony Ferlita Jr. (Susan), Gina Ferlita Cutrer, and Darlene Ferlita Douglass (Dale). He was the proud grandfather of Aidan and Alexis Ferlita, Courtney and Lindsey Cutrer, and William and Joshua Bradford, and his loving godchild John Marshall Mederios. Melvin is also survived by his lifelong best friends Gail and Tommy Gleber, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Melvin is preceded in death by his son Brian Keith Ferlita, his adoring parents Gasper and Winnie Ferlita, and his siblings Kay Joyce Toepher and Kenneth Ferlita.
A native of New Orleans, Louisiana, longtime resident of Chalmette, and resident Madisonville, Louisiana for over 16 and half years. Melvin attended Delgado Community College to develop his trade. After Delgado, Melvin began his successful professional career in marine mechanic repairs at Donovan Marine for many years, followed by T+T Marine, of Chalmette with vast knowledge of outboard motors. Melvin was a devoted Catholic to St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Chalmette. After relocating to Madisonville, he was reunited with former Rev. MSGR Father Frank Giroir from St. Mark’s at St. Anslem Catholic Church of Madisonville.
Melvin was a kind, humble, and caring person. He was talented in the kitchen, and many enjoyed his fine cooking. He enjoyed spending time outdoors fishing and was an avid fan of thoroughbred racing at the New Orleans Fair Grounds. However, his true passion was spending time with his loving family. Melvin’s smile was contiguous, he was well respected and liked, who will be deeply and dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Relatives and friends are invited to the Funeral Service at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W. 21 AVE, Covington, Louisiana 70433, on Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at 11:30 AM with visitation from 9:30 AM until service time. Interment will follow the service at St. Louis Cemetery #3, 3421 Esplanade Ave, New Orleans, Louisiana 70119.
