Melvin John Chelena's Obituary
Melvin John Chelena, age 84, of Madisonville, passed away on Saturday, April 20, 2024. He was born on July 25, 1939, in New Orleans, Louisiana.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Rita Elaine Perrilloux Chelena; his second wife, Dinah King Chelena; parents, Charles Andrew Chelena and Muriel Newcombe Chelena; and siblings, Donald Chelena, Donna Chelena, and Carolyn Chelena Feldner.
He is survived by his children, Eric Chelena and Todd and Sandra Chelena, and his grandsons, Tyler and Mason Chelena. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Melvin taught in the St. Tammany Parish School System for 33 years, touching the lives of many along the way. No matter where he went across the country, he ran into former students thanking him. He was a dear lover of all animals, never meeting a stray or bird he didn’t help or feed.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Chelena may be made to the ASPCA or local Humane Society.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Saturday, April 27, 2024, from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W 21st Avenue, Covington, Louisiana. Interment will be held at a later date.
