Max Joseph Bishop's Obituary
Max Joseph Bishop, 87, passed away at his home in Covington, Louisiana on August 28, 2011.
Born on October 27, 1923 in Jay, Vermont, Max resided in Pittsfield, Massachusetts in his early years. He served our country during WWII as a US Coast Guard Merchant Marine and was decorated for his participation in the hazardous Murmansk Run. Working in various capacities in the field of home improvement it wasn’t long before he owned businesses diverse fields of floristry, pet foods, restaurant/bar, thoroughbred horses, home contracting and moving. His last 50 years were spent on the road traveling between his office at Bishop Homes, Inc. in the Gonzales/Prairieville area and his home in Metairie, or later in Covington.
Max was preceded in death by his parents Edith Longley Bishop and Alexander Joseph Bishop of Enosburg Falls, VT; his brother, Wilfred M. Bishop of Claremont, NH; sister, Dorothy Bishop Harrington of Pittsfield, MA; Theresa Sciola Bishop of Pittsfield MA; and grandson, Paul Anthony Wilkins, Jr of Covington, LA.
He is survived by children from his second marriage to Darvial Pedigo Bishop: Holly Bishop Wilkins (Paul Wilkins), Sharon Bishop Hutson (Louis Hutson Jr.), Judy Rust Yarbrough (Roy Yarbrough), Constance Rust Guy (Ted Jenkins); and by his children from his first marriage, Laura Bishop Gardner (Tom Gardner) and Donna Marie Bishop. He is also survived by the following grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Haskell Blaine Wilkins (Keri Wilkins), Nicholas Christopher Wilkins, Benjamin Paul Wilkins, Rebekah Elizabeth Wilkins, Louis Malcolm Hutson, III (Sarah Niehaus Hutson), Max Ryan Hutson, Madison Nicole Hutson, Darvial Sumner (John Sumner), Cash Donovan Yarbrough, Sunny Yarbrough, Ashley Yarbrough, Garrett Sumner, Arthur Lee Guy IV, Melissa Ann Gardner, Tamara Joy Gardner, Devan Thomas Gardner, Corey James Bishop, Riley Jane Bishop, and Gabe James Bishop Also leaving behind his cousin, Ralph M. Longley, to continue the journey of remembering the good ole days.
On Thursday, September 8, 2011, Max Joseph Bishop will be remembered by a gathering and service at the American Legion Hall on Ronald Reagan Hwy (old Hwy 190) in Covington from 9:30 to 10:30, followed by a prayer service. The graveside service at 1:30 p.m., will be held at Biloxi National Cemetery with Military Funeral Honors attended by the Coast Guard Honor Guard. The family invites family, friends and old acquaintances to join them casually to share memories and prayer at 6:00-8:00p.m. at the Belloni Home, 1216 Twenty-third Avenue, Covington, LA
