Mary V. Salas' Obituary
Our sweet, beautiful Matriarch has joined Jesus and is now part of the heavenly choir.
She graced this world with her contagious smile and huge love for over 93 years! Mom spent her working years in the bank industry, and she loved talking numbers.
Mom loved singing and dancing and would often be found dancing around the kitchen while she cooked and cleaned. You could not be in her presence without her constantly asking, “Mi Hito/Mi Hita are you hungry? Can I make you something to eat?”
Mom loved Big! Whenever we would say, “I love you!” her response would always be, “I love you so much more!” as she would give you a big hug or (as she became weaker) hug your hands into hers. She would then send you off with the sign-of-the-cross on your forehead.
Mom was born in Corpus Christi, Texas, where she would later meet her husband of 46 years. In 1972, mom and dad moved our family from Harlingen, TX to Metairie, LA. She resided the remainder of her beautiful life on the Northshore.
Mom was the oldest of nine children to Faustino and Benita Villarreal. She also had nine children: Yolanda [deceased] (Cande), Raymond Jr. (Belinda), Richard, Sylvia (Rik), Elizabeth, Mary Ellen, Sandra, Robert [deceased], and Karen. As a result, there are numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren… what a legacy she started!
On Friday, May 26, 2023, relatives and friends are invited to the services at St. Jane de Chantal Catholic Church, 72040 Maple Street, Abita Springs, LA 70420. Visitation (10am – 11:45am), the Memorial Mass (12:00 Noon), followed by a Reception (1 – 3 pm). Interment will be held privately.
The Salas family invites you to share thoughts, fondest memories, and condolences online at E. J. Fielding Funeral Home Guest Book at www.ejfieldingfh.com.
