Mary Agnes "Mab" Valois' Obituary
Mary Agnes Borck “Mab” Patin Valois, 79, of Covington passed away on April 24, 2014 in Hammond, LA. She was born on October 17, 1934 in New Orleans. She was the youngest child and only daughter of Thomas Clifton Patin, Sr. of New Roads and Mary Agnes Borck of Oaks Plantation in Port Allen. Mab spent the early part of her childhood in the Carrollton District of New Orleans. The family later moved to Hammond where Mab finished her elementary education at Holy Ghost School. She went on to board at St. Scholastica Academy in Covington. She then went on to earn her B.A. at Southeastern in Hammond. She married Marcel Laurent Valois of Covington at Holy Ghost Church in Hammond on May 11, 1958. They spent their entire married life in Covington. Mab spent a few years teaching in the St. Tammany Parish Public School System before retiring to stay home with her children. Later in life she was a founding partner and manager of The Armoire, a ladies fashion boutique on Lee Lane in Covington. She closed the shop in the mid 90’s to spend more time with her grandchildren. Mab was preceded in death by her parents, her oldest son Thomas Todd Valois, and her brother Thomas Clifton Patin, Jr. She is survived by her husband Marcel; her sister-in-law Beryl Trenchard Patin of Covington; her daughter Mathilde Valois McCann (Brent) of St. Francisville; her younger son Walter Abbott Valois (Jenny) of Lafayette; and six grandchildren: Preston Catledge Valois and Turner Catledge Valois of Covington; Brenna Lane McCann, Walter Bennett Souther, and Ruth Amelia McCann of St. Francisville; and Walter Aiden Valois of Lafayette. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service at 11:00 AM on Monday, April 28, 2014 at E. J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 West 21st Avenue Covington, LA 70433. Visitation on Monday from 9:00 AM to service time. Interment in Garden of the Pine Mausoleum, Covington, LA at a later date.
