Mary Devine's Obituary
Mary Ann Kane Devine passed away on July 27th, exactly 85 years to the day that she was born.
She is now rejoined with the love of her life, Lanier H. Devine, whom preceded her eight years earlier into the Lord’s Kingdom. Mary Ann was born on July 27, 1928 in New Orleans. She had three sisters, Charlotte, Amy, and Patricia, and two brothers, Hebert and Kelly.
Mary Ann gracefully melded Southern charm and class with the determination and tenacity of her Irish ancestry. She was very close to her maternal grandmother and always spoke fondly of her childhood memories with her. This relationship undoubtedly carried over to the close bond and impact she had on her own grandchildren’s lives. She glowed proudly when speaking of her grandson Christopher and granddaughters Andrea and Monique. In fact, she had a significant impact on many of the lives of children in her family. She opened her home on several occasions to care for these children, one of which was her husband’s niece, whom she shared a very special, maternal bond that will be forever lasting. She gave freely and her most special gift was the one of unconditional love.
After graduating from McMain High School, Mary Ann worked as a hospital administrator in Metairie, LA. She would later work as a secretary in the same office in which she would meet her future husband, Lanier. The love, respect and dedication they shared was inspirational to all that had the good fortune to witness it. Shortly after moving to the Northshore, they opened their own HVAC business, Three Rivers Services, Inc. Their business was very successful for over 30 years before they sold the company and retired. Theirs was a reputation of honesty and integrity throughout the community.
Her husband Lanier and her two sons, Edward and Lewis preceded her in death. She is survived by one sister, four grandchildren, one great grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews. All in her family are grateful to her Godson and nephew Mark and his wife Kristen for the selfless care they gave to Mary Ann over the past many years.
Mary Ann was interred alongside her husband, Lanier, and the family plans to hold a small intimate service in her honor at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, the American Diabetes Association, and CASA.
