Mary L. Collier's Obituary

Mary L. Collier passed away on Friday, November 5, 2021 in Covington, LA at the age of 93. She was born in El Dorado, AR on October 26, 1928. She was a much loved only child to John Wesley Lofton and Eva Lois Lewis Lofton, who preceded her in death.
Mary was the mother of Kathy Collier Welch (John), Wesley David Collier (Nancy) and Robert Lester Collier (Kellie); grandmother of Sherry Welch Hammons (Ron), John David Welch (Julie), Kady, Zachary (Sil), Christopher (Ashley), Virginia, and Claire Collier; and great-grandmother of Trey (Jordan), LeAnn and Catherine Hammons, John Luke Welch and Elise Collier.
Mary grew up in Anderson County, Texas. She graduated from East Texas Baptist University in 1948 with a BS degree in History. Mary went on to marry the “love of her life,” Lester David Collier in 1948. He preceded her in death in 2013.
Mary was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and caregiver to others. She was an active member of the New Orleans Geological Auxiliary Society, First United Methodist Church in Covington, and the “Helping Hands.”
Mary loved reading, especially history and Biblical studies. She told vivid stories of her childhood, college years, family and shared her wisdom to all. She loved to laugh and always had a beautiful smile. She was known to all for her “wit and wisdom,” graciousness and kindness to all.
Her family is deeply grateful to the entire staff of St. Tammany Health System Hospice for the loving care they provided.

Relatives and friends are invited to the Funeral Service at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W. 21st Avenue, Covington, LA 70433 on Saturday, November 13, 2021 at 2:00 PM with visitation from 1:00 PM until service time. Interment will follow the service at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens, 2280 W 21st Avenue, Covington, LA.
