Mary Elizabeth Carter's Obituary
Mary Elizabeth Moore Carter died after a fall on Saturday, May 1, 2010 at the age of 89. Mary was born on October 2, 1920 in Zwolle, Louisiana to J. M. and Florence Moore. She grew up in DeRidder, Louisiana and graduated from Lake Charles High School. She attended Louisiana State University where she was Vice President of Chi Omega sorority and sponsor for the ROTC Company I. She met her husband, Shelley “Mitch” Carter at LSU. They married in 1952 and moved to Shreveport, Louisiana. They were active members of the community and of First Presbyterian Church; she was President and a lifetime member of PTA, the Junior League and Cotillion. They raised their family in Shreveport and enjoyed water skiing and boating on Lake Bistineau with family and friends.
In 1997 they moved to Mandeville where they became active members and served as Elders at New Covenant Presbyterian Church. Mary also served as President of the Presbyterian Women. They were also very active with marching bands, plays and school activities with their grand children.
Mary is survived by her son Larry Carter and wife Debbie of Austin, Texas, and her daughter Deenie Reese and husband Dan of Madisonville, Louisiana. She is also survived by grandchildren Chris Carlson, Michael Carter, Shelley Reese and Carter Reese. Her son Tucker died in 2005 and her beloved Mitch died in 2007.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to a memorial worship service on Tuesday, May 4th at 3:00 pm at New Covenant Presbyterian Church, 4375 Hwy 22, Mandeville, LA 70471. Friends are invited to join the family after the service at a reception at the church. A private graveside service was held in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens.
The family requests that memorials be made to the Memorial Fund at New Covenant Presbyterian Church.
