Mary Gill Bel's Obituary
Mary Gill Bel, age 94, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on July 20th, 2023. She died at home peacefully with loved ones by her side.
She was born and raised in Amite, Louisiana, and attended Amite High School. Mary married Douglas Warren Bel, also from Amite, in 1946. In 1949 they moved to the River Ridge, Louisiana area where they lived for 34 years. In 1983 they moved to Mandeville, Louisiana where she resided until her death.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Douglas Warren Bel; two sons, Paul Douglas, and Charles David Bel; her parents, Dave Calvin and Ada Davis Gill; two sisters, Ada LeBlanc, Lena Mae Guillot; four brothers, Dave, Lemauel, Percy and Daniel Gill; and son-in-law, James E. Mire.
She is survived by two daughters, Linda Bel Mire of Mandeville, Louisiana and Carolyn Bel Heard (Michael) of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida; two grandsons, Christopher Michael Douglas Heard of Jacksonville, Florida and Jeffrey James Heard (Jessica) of Ponte Vedra, Florida.
She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. As much as she loved her husband, children and grandchildren her first true love was “our Lord Jesus Christ” who she felt was her true confidant and constant companion.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral services at E. J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W 21st Avenue, Covington Louisiana on Monday, July 24, 2023, at 11:00 AM with visitation on Monday beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow in Amite City Cemetery.
