As a friend of the Susan Humphrey family, I enjoyed my time visiting with Marty and Susan. This included many family gatherings while Marty lived in Louisiana. One that is vivid in my memory is the story of his applying to work for a plywood factory in Louisiana. As I remember, He appeared at the factory to apply, and one of the plywood lines was down. Three or four technicians were at the factory, trying to fix the problem so the line would start working. It was near lunch time, and the owner or manager of the plant told Marty to see what he could do with the line, while the technicians and the manager went to lunch.
Marty started checking out the operation of the line, and found a company sticker on the equipment, with a telephone number on it. He called the number and was told the things that could cause the line to go down. He checked them out, and when the technicians and Manager returned from lunch, the line was operating and producing plywood.
