Marty was a great friend in college. We both scrapped by in Latin classes. I wanted to contact him after all these years (Marty was someone you never forget). Marty was the best friend I could have ever hoped for. And as you know, Rose, for me he was much more than that. For almost half a century he was my brother, and I shall miss him terribly.

I lost a great friend. My heart truly aches.
It's comforting to know that Marty is now reunited with Coach Mac, Pistol Pete, Hot Rod Hundley and all the great ones he enjoyed writing about. He's probably already interviewing Bo Rein, asking him about that final recruiting trip.
