Marsha Maddox Smalley's Obituary
Marsha Maddox Smalley passed away on Saturday, February 4, 2023 at the age of 73. She was born on January 14, 1950.
Marsha is survived by her loving husband, Sam Smalley of 30 years; her children, Lawrence Michael Rase Jr. (Stacey Paretti) and Lance Marcus Rase (Erika Laughlin); and stepsons, Chris, Chad (Allison), Chaplin (Leah Ann), and Carson. Marsha is also survived by her grandchildren Shelby DiMartino (Bruce), Hadley Murrell (Jackson), Larry Rase III, Landry Rase, Abigail Rase, Nicholas Rase, Madison Smalley, Christian Smalley, Layla Smalley, Chandler Smalley, Savannah Smalley, and Stella Smalley; and great grandchild, Rumi Smalley. She was the sister of Paul Rand Maddox Jr. (Kim) and Melissa Hall King (Rick). She is survived by countless loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and wonderful lifelong friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Louise Waid Maddox and Paul Rand Maddox, as well as her brother, Jack Waid Maddox.
She was born in Bowling Green, KY and was a resident of Mandeville for 45 years.
Marsha worked in real estate her entire career and excelled in residential, commercial and property management. She was proud of managing commercial ventures that are mainstays today in our local community including the Holiday Square Shopping Center and Lakeway Towers. Nationally she represented Alfalfa Video, Blockbuster Video, Ruby Tuesday, Victoria’s Secret, The Limited, The Express, and Bath & Body Works, amongst others. She was a proud member of the International Council of Shopping Centers. Later in life Marsha enjoyed hosting a Bed & Breakfast, Woods Hole Inn, with her husband in Folsom, LA. They welcomed guests from all over the world to St. Tammany for over six years.
Marsha was most lovingly known as Mimi, as she loved her grandchildren more than anything in the world. She was the queen of birthday cupcakes at school, golf cart rides at the beach in early mornings so her kids could sleep in, crab hunting with flashlights, and year-round Christmas trees decorated for the season. She also loved attending dance recitals (go NAD!), concerts (the Eagles!), and sporting events (if grandkids were playing, she was on cloud nine!) Marsha was a lifetime fan of LSU and never failed to root for her team, even when she found herself in a home divided!
She loved to travel, with favorite trips to Mexico Beach, a road trip up the east coast, Lake Tahoe, Des Moines to visit family, and countless family gatherings on the beaches of the Gulf Coast.
She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
