Marion Breaux Hebert's Obituary
MARION BREAUX HEBERT
Steadfast in Her Journey With Christ
On October 17, 2023, Marion Breaux Hebert was called from this life as peacefully as she lived for 102 years. A native of Larose, LA and resident of Covington, LA, born on September 22, 1921, Marion was the fourth child of Severin and Helen Sigur Breaux. A child of the Great Depression and divorced parents, her life was impacted in powerful ways. From a very young age she chose to love and cherish her large family, embrace her faith, and bring laughter and happiness to all. Her childhood home was next to Larose High School, and each day she watched the students playing during recess and going into the school when the bell rang. After begging her father to let her go to school, she finally got her wish at age four. Being the youngest of her class had no effect on her academics. She was a leader, played on the basketball team, received graduation awards and was class salutatorian at age15. The Depression ended Marion’s dream of attending college, but she continued to financially support herself working in Larose at the Joy Theater, then through World War II at Camp Livingston, Alexandria, and later in New Orleans at the Port of Embarkation. A war bride, she married her best friend, the boy next door, Tom. The love they shared for each other, their children, and generations following was the core of their daily life. She found joy sitting with Tom listening to music, completing the LA Times Crossword Puzzles together and cooking for friends and family. Three daughters saw Marion’s strong faith in God, her dedication to family and service to all she came to know. Their memories, like pictures in a slide show, fade slowly from one to another: humor, wit, and laughter so easily triggered; strength battling and surviving five types of cancer; mentoring many young women through their breast cancer treatments; and adoring each new child born into her family. Marion spent two to three hours daily in prayer for others and meditating upon the mysteries of the Rosary. She marveled at Saint Padre Pio’s love of Jesus and his ministry despite his physical pain. This gentle woman lived by the motto, “Just love.” Marion’s life reflected the Prayer of St. Francis in kindness, joy, hope, and love. Her happiest moments were enjoying time with her family and many friends. Marion’s passing is a huge loss, but her life is a greater inspiration.
Marion was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Thomas Hebert, the love of her life; father Severin Breaux, mother Helen Sigur Breaux, stepmother Lucia Theriot Breaux; brothers Sess, Vernon, Sterling, and Louie Breaux; sisters Heloise Richoux, Helen Breaux, Lois Songe and grandson-in-law Aaron Gaspard. She is survived by three daughters, Donna Plaisance (Louis), Rochelle St. Marie, and Mona Vegas (August); by nine grandchildren, Robyn Vegas (Juan Prieto), Jack Plaisance (Michele), Melanie Vegas Gaspard, Heather St. Marie Dauzat (Mat), Marcel St. Marie (Rebecca), Jennifer Plaisance Hughes (Mark), David St. Marie (Anna), Thomas Plaisance (Kristen), Lauren Vegas Matthews (Derek); great-grandchildren, Erica and Erin Constransitch (Juan Diego Rodrigues), Eric Prieto, Amberli Prieto Kelly (Gabriel), Lauren Griffen (Brandt), Blake Bourgeois, Madilynn and Faith Plaisance, Max Silverii, Audrey and Cooper Hughes, Natalie and Max St. Marie, Stellar and Avia Gaspard, Miles Plaisance, Amelia and Emerson St. Marie, Mia and Hayden Matthews; great-great-grandchildren Johanna Constransitch, Elijah, EllaGrace, and Emersyn Griffen, Bentley and Brax Bourgeois; and many in-laws, nieces and nephews.
