Marilyn Long Gunter's Obituary
Marilyn Long Gunter passed away on Saturday September 11, 2021 surrounded by family. Marilyn was 77 years old. She was born August 31, 1944 in Warren, AR to Jess W. Long and Mildred Joclynn Myers Derks. Beloved mother of Terri S. DiMarco (James), and Christina R. Pike. Beloved grandmother of Taylor R. DiMarco, Stephen M. Pike and Connor J. DiMarco. Marilyn is also survived by her brothers, Raymond Long (Terry), James Dennis Long (Rosemary) and Tracy Derks (Barbara).
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lucien J. Gunter; and her brothers, Bobby Jo Long and Gary Keith Derks.
Originally from Arkansas, Marilyn settled in Louisiana in the 1970's with her two daughters. Not long after arriving in New Orleans, she met and married Lucien. Marilyn enjoyed traveling, entertaining and going out on the town with him until he preceded her in death in 2016.
Marilyn was a wonderful cook who could replicate any dish, just from a sample taste. This was long before YouTube or any other help from the internet, not that she would have been inclined to use it, as she was not a fan of computers. She was an avid gardener and could spend hours every day perfecting her vast collection of plants and beautifying her gardens. Marilyn loved helping people when they had any questions about gardening and was a valuable resource on the subject. Marilyn enjoyed reading, especially World War II history. She also enjoyed quilting, making themed baby quilts for family and close friends. However, the most important thing to Marilyn was her love for her family, especially her three grandsons.
Marilyn will be missed by many, but forgotten by none.
Private services will be held by the family.
