Marie Castellano Traina's Obituary
Marie Castellano Traina, 93, died peacefully on Friday, July 23, 2010 in Covington, LA, after a brief illness surrounded by her family and friends.
A memorial service celebrating her life was officiated by Fr. Winston Rice, Associate Rector of Christ Episcopal Church, on Friday, July 30th at Wynwood of Mandeville, Assisted Living Facility, where she resided for many years.
Funeral services and burial were held on Sunday, August 1st at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church Anniston, AL officiated by the Rector Reverend Bruce A. White.
Marie was a native of Tampa FL, where she met and married her beloved husband of 56 years, the late John L. Traina. Marie & John moved to Anniston in 1962, where they were active members of St Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church. Marie was a graduate of Florida State College, Tallahassee, a retired teacher and a former chemist with DuPont in Wilmington DE. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she was active in the Episcopal Church Women of St Michael’s and the establishment of the St. Michael’s Community Services Center; a longtime member of the Camellia Garden Club; the Girl Scouts of America, especially the Cottaquilla Council; and numerous volunteer activities.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband, John; parents, Rosa and Nicola Castellano of Tampa and brother, Charles Castellano of Dayton OH. Survivors include three daughters: Joanne T. Hawthorne of Northport AL; Dianne T. McDonald of Dacula GA; and Vicki Traina-Dorge of Covington LA; seven grandchildren: Rose Hawthorne Nelson (Justin); Jonathan Hawthorne; Jamie Hawthorne; Katie McDonald; Nicholas McDonald; Jennifer Traina-Dorge and Stephen Traina-Dorge; great-granddaughter, Alexis Hawthorne. She is also survived by one sister, Josephine C. Switzer, of Newport News VA, and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
