Marie Picou Jeanfreau's Obituary
Marie Picou Jeanfreau, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on April 23, 2025, at the age of 91. Born in New Orleans on August 1, 1933, Marie lived a life centered on faith, family, and love.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years, Edmond Jeanfreau; her parents, Lee and Catherine Selhofer Picou; her grandson, Steven Patrick Jeanfreau; and her siblings: her twin sister, Marion Ford; Anthony Picou Sr.; Esther Callia; Catherine Picou; Jeanne Doane; and Lee Picou Jr.
Marie is survived by her four children: Diane Jenkins (Bert), Cheryl Tortorich, Ed Jeanfreau (Cindy), and Kevin Jeanfreau. She leaves behind four cherished grandchildren—Kristin Hornsby (Jack), Emily Simon (Scott), Christopher Jeanfreau (Katie), and Gregory Jenkins—as well as two precious great-grandchildren, Olivia and Henry Simon; and siblings David Picou; Gayle Dardar; Gary Picou, and many loved nieces and nephews.
A longtime resident of Abita Springs, Marie was a woman of deep Catholic faith and had once been an active member of the St. Jane de Chantal Ladies Sodality. She lived her beliefs through her devotion to her family and her quiet acts of kindness. She found joy in life’s simple pleasures, especially in feeding the hummingbirds that visited her garden.
Marie loved caring for her family and showed her love through the meals she prepared—cooking a homemade dinner nearly every night. Her home was a gathering place, filled with warmth, laughter, and the comforting aroma of something delicious on the stove.
Marie will be remembered for her boundless love, unwavering faith, and the way she always put her family first. She will be sadly missed by all who loved her.
Please join us in celebrating Marie’s life on Tuesday, April 29, at St. Jane de Chantal Catholic Church in Abita Springs. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am, followed by the rosary at 11:30 am. Funeral Mass at 12:00 noon. Interment will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens.
