Father Marian Edward Larmann, O.S.B.'s Obituary
Father Marian Edward Larmann, O.S.B., monk of Saint Joseph Abbey in Saint Benedict, Louisiana, died at Oschner Medical Center - Westbank, Gretna, LA on June 6, 2007 following a lengthy illness. He was 84 years old. Son of the late Edward John Larmann, Sr., and Marie Edna Fernandez Larmann, Fr. Marian was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on March 15, 1923. He made his profession as a Benedictine monk of Saint Joseph Abbey on August 20, 1942 and was ordained as a priest on June 7, 1947. He is preceded in death by his sisters, Anna Mae Larmann Maher and Catherine Marie Larmann, both of New Orleans, LA. He is survived by one brother, Alfred Louis Larmann of Delmonst, PA. and four sisters, Marie Larmann Jacob of Baton Rouge, LA, Carol Larmann Springmann of Metairie, LA, Joan Larmann Drewes of Jefferson, LA and Margaret Larmann Osterhold of Arabi, LA.
Father Marian served as a Professor in Saint Joseph Seminary 1946 – 1999 and as Prefect of Discipline l957-l962. He was acting Rector of the seminary from l962-1964, becoming Rector in 1964 and Rector of Saint Joseph Seminary College in 1967. He was Director of the Abbey Youth Camp, l960-1962 and served as Consulter to the abbot from 1964-1971. He served in Saint Benedict Church in Covington as Pastor from 1978-1982 and from 1987-2005; he also served as Pastor at Saint Peter’s Church in Covington from 1982-1987. In addition to these parochial duties he was Chaplain at Saint Scholastica Convent, 1974-1978. In 2005 he was priest in residence at Annunciation Parish in Bogalusa and then retired to the Abbey
His Body will be received on Monday, June 11 at 5:15 P.M. at Saint Joseph Abbey followed by the singing of Vespers. At 7:15 P.M. on June 11, a vigil service will be held in the Abbey church. The funeral Mass will be on Tuesday, June 12 at 11:15 A.M. at St. Joseph Abbey with burial in the Abbey cemetery.
