Marguerite Ann Meisler Keyes' Obituary
View Video Tribute Marguerite Ann Meisler Keyes passed away on Friday, September 21, 2007. Inspired by her father’s example, Margie pursued a career in elementary education and pursued it with great passion. After earning a BA in Elementary Education from St. Mary’s Dominican College, she went on to teach many children at St. Clement of Rome, the Academy of the Sacred Heart, River Forest Academy, Kehoe-France Northshore, and Mary Queen of Peace. To some she was a nationally known Science teacher, to others a loving 2nd Grade teacher. Margie also volunteered as a CCD teacher in several parishes and as a PTA Art education coordinator at Woodlake Elementary School. She balanced her teaching career beautifully with her other great passion - her family. Margie was the loving wife of George Anthony Keyes. Mother of Michelle Meisler Keyes and Heather Meisler Keyes. Daughter of Gayle Hawkins Meisler Griffin and the Late J.D. Meisler. Step-Daughter of James L. Griffin. Sister of John D. Meisler, Jr. and the late James M. Meisler. Daughter-In-Law of Virgil I. Keyes. Sister-In-Law of Cillen E. Meisler and Elizabeth A. Keyes. Aunt of J. Daniel Meisler, III and Alexandra R. Meisler. Granddaughter of the Late James L. and Marguerite Perrin Hawkins and Wilhelm M. and Blanche Bourgeois Meisler. Godmother of Matthew P. Hahn. Margie also taught by example - most notably how to live with Cancer with a positive attitude. She refused to let the disease define her. She marveled at the many kind people that gave her extraordinary physical and spiritual support throughout this challenge. These people included friends and family; students, parents, teachers and administrators at Kehoe-France and Mary Queen of Peace; and a host of people at Ochsner. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass Tuesday, Sept 25, 2007 at 11:30 AM from Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 1501 W. Causeway App., Mandeville, LA 70471. A wake at E.J. Fielding Funeral, 2260 W. 21st Ave., Covington, LA 70433 will be Monday, September 24, 2007, from 6:00-9:00 PM. Visitation Tuesday at Mary Queen of Peace will begin at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow Mass at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens in Covington. In lieu of flowers, Margie's wishes were that donations may be made to Mary Queen of Peace School, where she completed her teaching career and found great peace.
