Marguerite DeGeorge Cyrus' Obituary
Marguerite DeGeorge Cyrus passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 25. A native of New Orleans, former resident of Mandeville, and most recently a resident of Covington, LA. She was born on August 18, 1922 to the late Joseph DeGeorge and Mary Catherine Macaluso DeGeorge.
Beloved wife of the late Louis I. Cyrus, Sr. Loving mother of Louis I. Cyrus, Jr., Lynn C. Babin, Linda C. Cefalu, and Margaret C. Tauzier. Mother-in-law of Patricia Zammit Cyrus, Wayne J. Babin, Sr., Johnny J. Cefalu, Sr., and Leon W. Tauzier Jr. Grandmother (“Maw Maw Rite”) of Stacey C. Guerin (Teddy), Jennifer C. Lay (Jason), Johnny Jr. (Dayna) and Jason Cefalu, Wayne Jr.(Sheena) and Jeffrey Babin (Michelle), step Grandmother (“Grandma Rite”) of Margot T. May (Bryan). Great-grandmother of Abby Guerin, Hunter and Zoe Lay, Kaylie and Kaden Cefalu, Brooke, Brynn, and Riley Babin, and step great-grandmother of Laird, Berkley, and Tucker May. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Sister of the late Charles and Michael DeGeorge. Niece of the late Joseph P. Macaluso. Cousin of the late Frances and Lillie DeGeorge.
Marguerite worked for 28 years as a teacher for the Jefferson Parish School System. She loved to cook for her family and especially enjoyed having family and friends over for “spaghetti Sunday”. She enjoyed attending the Endymion Extravaganza, particularly the parade day mass celebrated by Archbishop Aymond.
Her family would like to thank the staff and residents of St. Anthony’s Gardens, whom she thought of as her second family since October.
Relatives and friends are invited to the Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 316 Lafitte St, Mandeville, LA 70448 on Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at 12:00 Noon with Visitation from 11:00 AM until Mass time.
