Margaret Read Dessauer's Obituary
Margaret Read Dessauer, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home in Covington on November 17, 2023 at the age of 91.
Margaret was born in La La Lima, Honduras where she lived until starting boarding school in Mississippi at the age of 12, attending All Saints Episcopal School in Vicksburg. After high school, Margaret enrolled at the University of Mississippi where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree. Upon graduating, she married her college sweetheart, David J. Dessauer, Jr. and ultimately settled down in New Orleans, Louisiana where she lived until moving to Covington in 1978. Margaret was an active member of the Gentilly Presbyterian Church and choir in New Orleans and was a founding member of the New Covenant Presbyterian Church in Mandeville, Louisiana where she was a cornerstone of the NCPC choir. She was a member of the Philanthropic Education Organization (PEO), enjoyed playing tennis and bridge, loved to travel, and was an avid Jeopardy fan.
Margaret was proceeded in death by her loving husband David J. Dessauer, Jr., by her father and mother, Marion Ellette Read and Inda Traylor Read, and by her two sisters Jane Read Roach and Libby Read Roberts.
She is survived by her four sons, David J. Dessauer, III, Scott Read Dessauer, Patrick Traylor Dessauer, and Mark Schroeder Dessauer; her four daughters-in-law, Lana Vujnovich Dessauer, Deborah Masi Dessauer, Carmen Wheelock Dessauer, and Terri Lynn Lloyd; her eight grandchildren, Carly Dessauer, Nicholas Dessauer, David Dessauer, IV, Luke Dessauer, Chelsea Dessauer Brady, Seth Dessauer, Katie Dessauer, and Ian Dessauer; and her six great grandchildren, Charlotte Dessauer, Eli Dessauer, Owen Dessauer, Emma Dessauer, Scott Dessauer II, and Connor Brady.
A breast cancer survivor, Margaret brought joy and happiness to all her knew her, and will be forever missed by those who were blessed to be touched by her loving and kind spirit.
The family is eternally grateful for the loving care provided by her nieces, Sharon Lewis and Holly Hess, and care givers Vicki Lloyd, Lischunda Robinson, and Janell Hall.
A visitation with the family will take place at 10:00am on Friday, November 24th at New Covenant Presbyterian Church, 4375 LA Highway 22, Mandeville, Louisiana, to be followed by a memorial service at noon. Interment will follow in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens in Covington, LA.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the American Cancer Society or charity of your choosing.
