Lylln Brinkman was born on February 10, 1956, to Margaret and Lyle Guth of Lake Charles, Louisiana. She was raised in her hometown of Lake Charles where she attended St Luke's Simpson Methodist Church. She excelled at academics at Lake Charles High School and was a proud member of the Kilties and school choirs. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree of Education from McNeese State University and a Master's Degree in Christian Education from Scarritt College in Nashville, Tennessee.
She was a Diaconal Minister and was employed by several churches in Arkansas and Louisiana. It was during her time at 1st Methodist Church of Bossier City, that she attended a Louisiana Cursillo retreat and met Rick Brinkman, a transplant from Illinois. A friendship began and he noticed that there was something special about this lady. During a subsequent church choir trip to Carnegie Hall in New York, he realized she was the one. After a brief courtship and the life changing experiences of Hurricane Katrina, the two were married at Thomcrown Chapel in Eureka Springs, Arkansas.
Home would be in Mandeville, Louisiana for the next 20 years where Lylln was a member of the church choir and a facilitator of Disciple Bible studies at St. Timothy on the Northshore Methodist Church. Lylln was a devout Christian who loved the Lord. She came from a Mennonite background and always believed in service to others. Strangers were just friends she had never met.
She saw the best in others and the most positive outcome in every situation. Her favorite moments were serving the Lord, following her favorite sports teams the LSU Tigers and the New Orleans Saints, singing, traveling, cross-stitching, and enjoying the company of her four felines Abby, Sammie, Skipper, and Tygger.
She will be missed by all those who loved her and admired her sweet spirit. Her husband Rick wishes to thank Dr. Faizan Malik and Nurse Keely for their unwavering compassion and outstanding care. We thank the Lord for putting these special people in our path.
