Lydia M. Galloway Sharp's Obituary
Lydia M. Galloway Sharp joined her beloved husband, Hezzie B. Sharp in heaven on Saturday, September 7, 2024. Mrs. Sharp was the daughter of the late Werhli and Alice Galloway and was born on December 7, 1930. She was the sister of Louise (Austin) Dawsey and the late Nora (Don) Dart, Hubert (Myra), Herbert (Fannie), Houston (Clara Mae) and Madeline Galloway. Mrs. Sharp was the daughter-in-law of the late Percy and Annie Sharp. She was the sister-in-law to the late Sadie (Bill) McClendon, Melvin (Betty) and Clyde (Louise) Sharp. She was a loving aunt to many including great as well as great-great nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Sharp was in the first group to attend the Lee Road School. From there she went on to Covington High School graduating in 1950. After graduation she worked at Burns Ben Franklin. She married Hezzie on January 28, 1955. They lived in Jennings, Louisiana for one year where Lydia worked at Falling’s Wholesale Store. Upon returning to the Lee Road area, the Sharps built the home they lived in their entire lives. Lydia worked at Quality Meat Market and The St. Tammany Parish Library in Covington and retired from the Lee Road Branch in 1992 after 20 years of service.
Mrs. Sharp, a Christian lady, was a member of New Life Community Church, formally Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church. During her years at Pilgrim Rest she was the pianist/organist. She not only directed, but also wrote many Christmas plays for the church members’ enjoyment. The Sharps were members of Campers on Mission for over 12 years travelling to various parts of the United States. Mrs. Sharp was a faithful worker with the sewing group, Golden Needles.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service at New Life Community Church, 20116 Highway 1081 (Stafford Road), Covington, LA 70435 on Friday, September 13, 2024 at 12:00 PM with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM until service time. Interment will take place following the service at Pilgrim Rest Church Cemetery, next to the church.
