Luther Clarence Ward III's Obituary
Luther C. Ward III (“L.C.”) passed away on March 10, 2023 at the home of family members and surrounded by his family.
He was 80.
He died after a brief battle with bile duct cancer.
He was born on Jan. 5, 1943, in New Orleans, La. where he attended the Academy of Sacred Heart grammar school and De La Salle High School before graduating from Fortier High School.
He spent the last two decades of his life living in Covington, La.
He graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond with a B.A. in psychology. There, he ran on the track team and threw the shot put. Luther was also a U.S. Army Reserve veteran.
Luther married his college sweetheart, Mary Ann Rotonti Ward, and the two started a family in Lafayette with a brief stop in Baton Rouge before moving back to New Orleans to raise his family.
Luther was a former member of the Knights of Columbus and the East Baton Rouge Lions Club where he was named the 1996-1997 Lion of the Year. In his later years, Luther was an active member of the Exchange Club of West St. Tammany.
Luther loved his family and friends and was always the most social person in the room.
Luther was happiest when entertaining his friends and family.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary Ann Ward; his two sons and their spouses: Steven Ward and his wife, Nisey Mayeaux Ward of Jackson, Miss. and Jason Ward and his wife, Cammie Nabors Ward of Madisonville, La.; and grandchildren Audrey Ward, Avery Ward, and McKenna Ward; and brother Larry Ward and his wife, Linda Ward of Madisonville, La. and their children Dawn, Colleen, Leslie, Patrick, and Brett.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther C. Ward Jr. and Frances Scully Ward.
There will be a memorial service held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 14, 2023 at Mandeville Bible Church, 217 Carroll St., Mandeville, LA.
