Ludwig "L.T." Candies' Obituary
Ludwig “L.T.” Candies, age 101, passed away Monday, February 23, 2026, peacefully at home with his loving family by his bedside. L.T. was born on August 27, 1924, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to the late Jeanne Dufrene Candies Magee and the late Ludwig Paul Candies. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 46 years Margie Jenkins Candies, son, Anthony Bryan Candies, daughter, Donna Lynn Candies, stepfather, Merton “Red” Magee, stepmother, Anna Mae Candies, sister, Nelda Martha Candies, and brother, Richard Paul Candies.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 18 years Juanita Helen Nettles Robertson Candies; his loving son Wade Nicholas Candies and daughter-in-law Laurie Duet Candies; his adoring grandchildren Wade Nicholas Candies, Jr. and Morgan, Lauré Candies Lehmann and Jeff, Jon Anthony Candies and LeEllen, and Élise Candies Taylor and Blake; his nine precious great-grandchildren Noah, Elodie, Amorét, Genevieve, Lisé, Beau, Adrienne, Evelyn, and Louise; sisters Connie Candies Breaux (Roddy) and Patricia Candies Daigle (Jerry) and numerous nieces and nephews.
L.T. spent much of his life in both Des Allemands and Covington, Louisiana, making Covington his permanent home in the 1950’s. Throughout his life he learned various trades and honed his skills to accomplish success in many professions. He became an experienced cattleman, farmer, fisherman, horseman, hunter, airplane and boat pilot, millman, musician, trapper, and heavy equipment operator.
He owned L.T. Candies Towing Company, a tugboat business, operating across the Gulf Coast from Mobile to Galveston for over 25 years. After retiring from the tugboat business, he moved north of Covington to raise his family intending to have a cattle and horse ranch. He bought a dozer to clear the land which in turn led him to a new career and business that would one day become Candies Excavation, Inc.
Ludwig “L.T.” Candies was a lifelong, faithful Christian man. He shared his undying love and devotion for God with his family, church, and community. He was one of the founding members of Shepherd’s Care Ministries.
In Lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Louisiana Special Olympics or Shepherd’s Care Ministries.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Service at Shepherd’s Care Ministries, 20115 Hwy 1081 Covington, LA 70435 on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at 11:30 am. Visitation will be held from 9:30 am until 11:30 am. Interment will follow at Shepherd’s Fold Cemetery.
