Lucina "Lucy" Garcia Conner's Obituary
Lucina “Lucy” Garcia Conner passed peacefully in her sleep, at the age of 95, on July 15, 2026.
Lucy is survived by her sons, Lawrence “Larry” C. Conner (Toni) and Richard “Ricky” M. Conner (Kori); her grandchildren, Jeffery Allan Carlson (Michelle), Erica Carlson Arrington (Trey), Kristen Conner Boargoub (Adam), Courtney Conner Landry (Taylor), and Brian Tregre Conner (Emily); and her great-grandchildren, Delilah Arrington, Madison Arrington, David Pitfield, Jude Joyce, Aliyah Boargoub, Elijah Boargoub, and Caia Lucina Conner.
She is also survived by her nieces, Diana Kay Roof (Rick) and Laurie Kay Dangler (Jeep); her nephews Michael Kay (Gladys), Bobby Conner, Mickey Conner, and Steve Conner; and many other much-loved nieces and nephews in both Venezuela and the United States.
While we will miss her dearly, we take comfort in knowing she has finally been reunited in Heaven with her beloved husband of 60 years, Martin C. Conner, and her children, Harold L. Conner, Cynthia Conner Carlson, and Brian David Conner.
Born in 1931 in Maracaibo, Venezuela, Lucy was the third of nine children. As a child, she attended Sunny Hills boarding school with her siblings in the United States and spoke often of the wonderful memories she had from that time in her life. One of Lucy’s proudest moments as an adult was being granted American citizenship after years of study.
She met her husband Marty while working as an executive secretary at Shell Oil Company in Venezuela in the 1950s. They were married in 1958, and a couple of years later moved to Holland. Upon returning to the United States, she and Marty settled first in Lafayette, then in Algiers, where they raised their five children. They attended St. Andrew the Apostle church in Algiers for 37 years, until they moved to the Northshore in 2004. There, they became parishioners of Mary Queen of Peace.
After retirement, Marty and Lucy made pilgrimages to many of the world’s most meaningful Catholic holy sites, each journey deepening their faith and filling her heart with gratitude. They traveled the world together, ate at wonderful restaurants, saw all the sights they wanted to see, and simply enjoyed the life they had built together.
Lucy’s family was her life. She was a wife, mother, and grandmother first, and everything else came second. She was an incredible mom who always led the family through faith and love. She was our North Star. She had a special relationship with each of her children and grandchildren, and each for a different reason. She enjoyed “girls’ nights” with her granddaughters and was so very proud of the men both of her grandsons had become.
Lucy was a bright light wherever she went. Whether she was feeding the turtles and alligators in the lake behind her home, enjoying chargrilled oysters with an old-fashioned or a “Puerto Rican” Irish coffee at Don’s, or just doing chores around her condo, she saw the positive in everything and everyone. She possessed a quiet strength, humility, and dignity that led her to find a way to laugh through the tough times, and she inspired all of us to do the same.
She was and will always be our favorite Golden Girl.

Visitation will be at Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 1501 W. Causeway Approach, Mandeville, LA 70471 on July 28, 2026, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at Westlawn Memorial Park.
