Lois Evelyn Moody Carruth's Obituary
Lois Evelyn Moody Carruth “Gran” passed away peacefully at the age of 98 on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, surrounded by family at home in Covington, LA. She was born on April 2, 1926, in Indianapolis, IN, to the late James Russell Moody and Gladys Opal Milton Moody.
At the age of 4, Lois moved south with her family and grew up along the Gulf Coast. She met her husband, Lowry, in New Orleans while working as an airline stewardess for Capital Airlines.
After marrying, Lois dedicated herself to being a homemaker, a devoted wife, and a loving mother to their five children. She had a deep love for children, finding her greatest joy in spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was also a lover of animals, forever rescuing and caring for them. At age 90, she wrote her first book, Last Ride on the Bayou, and was in the process of completing her autobiography, There Was a Knock at the Door.
Lois never met a stranger and was known for her kindness, compassion, and forgiving nature. She always sought the good in others and faced life's challenges with unwavering positivity and faith. Ever the optimist, Lois strived to be a peacemaker and an encourager to those around her. She touched many lives and will be deeply missed. The word that best describes our mother is love.
Lois was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 64 years, Lowry Grambling Carruth, as well as her siblings, Lloyd Russell Moody and Doris Wilma Fry. She leaves behind a legacy of love through her five children: Linda Galloway (Sidney), Lloyd Carruth (Elizabeth), Lee Carruth (Diane), Wayne Carruth (Sharon), and Donald Carruth (Lener); 18 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
A Graveside Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on September 28, 2024, at Pine Ridge Cemetery, 3893 LA-440, Kentwood, LA 70444. In lieu of flowers, donations in her honor may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at www.stjude.org.
