Linda Louise Wascom's Obituary
Linda Louise Wascom was born on October 4, 1941, in Madisonville, Louisiana, and passed away on December 22, 2025, in Covington. She was preceded in death by her parents Howard and Marjorie Willie Wascom.
Linda began her life in Folsom, Louisiana and started school there in first grade at the old Folsom Grammar School where her father served as Principal. In 1948 when Linda was in second grade, her father was transferred to Abita Springs elementary as Principal, and she lived in Abita for two years. In 1950 her parents bought a house in Covington and Linda became a Covington resident for life.
Linda graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University in 1963 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education, because her father wanted her to be a life-long educator, like him. But Linda was not destined to become a teacher. She entered the Tulane Graduate School of Social Work, and before earning her degree she learned that Charity Hospital was hiring social workers. Linda was hired immediately, and she found a home and a job that she loved, commuting daily from Covington across the Causeway to work at the hospital
Linda retired in 2002 after working 35 years at “Big Charity” as a Social Services Counselor. Linda’s passions included the Town of Covington and the Covington Public Library. She did not hesitate to corner the Mayor or her Councilman and let them know exactly what she thought of city services. The “girls at the library,” as she referenced them, were her research friends as she never had a computer or internet services. Linda loved working in her yard; raking and picking up limbs; baking and sharing with neighbors her delicious chocolate chip cookies and brownies; and eating Blue Bell ice cream. Her generosity was evidenced as she plied sanitation workers, mail carriers, and any other service people working on her street with her cookies along with an ice-cold Coke.
Many thanks to the staff of The Trace, and the staff at Heritage Bank of St. Tammany for their kindness to Linda over the years.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend funeral services for Linda at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at First Baptist Church Folsom, Louisiana with visitation beginning at 10:00AM. Interment will follow immediately in the church cemetery.
