Linda went home to the Lord to be with her husband of 47 years, the late Virgil A. Simon.
She is survived by her sons, C. Gerald Simon of Covington, LA and James L. Simon of Katy, TX; her grandsons, Grant L. Simon and Chad H. Simon both of Covington, LA, and Jonathan Simon of Houston, TX; a granddaughter, Jursha Simon Fields of Katy, TX; a sister, Rita S. “Dolly” Swanson of New Iberia; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, John L. Sulivan, Sr. and Zulmay Boudreaux Sulivan; three sisters, Ella S. Perret, Belzile “Belle” S. Oubre and Elia S. Dugas; three brothers, Julius, Edward Andrew and John Louis Sulivan.
Age 91 years, a native of Morbihan, LA she had been a recent resident of Covington, LA, and a former resident of Tioga, LA and New Iberia, LA.
Mrs. Simon served as the Executive Secretary to various superintendents of Pinecrest State School in Pineville, LA. During her tenure at Pinecrest, Mrs. Simon also served as the Executive Secretary for Dr. William H. Sloan who was the editor in chief of the American Journal on Mental Deficiencies. She received the Outstanding Employee Award of the Year for the State of Louisiana TWICE during her employment at Pinecrest.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial in Mrs. Simon’s memory on Saturday, January 20, 2007 at 11:00 AM from St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 108 East St. Peters Street, New Iberia, LA 70560.
Visitation will be in Covington on Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 West 21st Avenue and in New Iberia on Saturday at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 108 East St. Peter’s Street, from 10:00 AM until service time.
Graveside services and interment will follow in Holy Family Mausoleum in New Iberia.
The family would prefer memorials in Mrs. Simon’s name to St. Joseph’s Abbey and Seminary, 75376 River Road, Benedict, LA 70457.
E.J. Fielding Funeral Home of Covington, LA has been selected to assist the family with Mrs. Simon’s funeral arrangements.
