Francois Servais
Dear family and friends,
Please allow me to offer my heartfelt condolences for the loss of Linda. Although I never met her in person, we exchanged letters several years ago because I sponsor the grave of her father, Staff Sergeant François Arteight Dumser, who is buried at the Ardennes American Cemetery in Belgium.
Since then, I have regularly placed flowers on his grave—most recently this past Saturday for Memorial Day. It is my humble way of showing gratitude for his service and ensuring that he is never forgotten, even far from home.
Learning more recently about the circumstances of his passing in August 1944 has brought new depth to this tribute. He died at just 27 years old, far from his family, but with a daughter—Linda—waiting for him back home. Her memory, and the legacy of her father, are now forever linked in this quiet corner of Europe.
To Linda’s loved ones: if any of you would be willing, I would be truly honored to connect and share what I’ve gathered over the years about François’s service and final resting place. And I would be just as grateful to learn more about the man he was through the stories passed down in your family.
With warmest regards from Belgium,
François Servais
