Leroy L. Smith's Obituary
Leroy Lovering Smith passed away on Tuesday, June 23, 2009. He was born June 24, 1925 to the late Gustave and Edna Smith and has been a life resident of Mandeville.
He is survived by six children: Gretchen, Craig, Phoebe, Melisa, Marian and Tim and seven grandchildren.
His childhood was spent fishing, hunting and trapping on Lake Pontchartrain and the surrounding rivers and marshes. Helping his father build houses, tending to cattle and working at the family’s ice house in Mandeville also kept him busy. At age 14, he found time for schooling and helped the other students and the community by driving the school bus. A veteran of the Navy during World War II, he served his country in the Pacific Theatre aboard the USS Fremont.
The family celebrated private memorial services and will inter his remain at the Mandeville cemetery at a later date.
