Lenny, Kim, and family, we are so sad to learn of your dad's passing. Although I (Linda) never did know him personally, I am learning from the comments that he was a wonderful and compassionate man. I do know that he leaves a very loving family behind to mourn him and his great legacy. Our hearts and prayers are with you now and in the days ahead as you adjust to this loss.

It is with great sadness that I bid Mel farewell. We served together on state police for many years. He was a leader and a pleasure to be around. He always knew you when he saw you and he always offered sound counsel. He was simply one of the best.

While I try to get my mind wrapped around this, I can’t help but reflect back on the Mel I know and love. As the first female trooper at Troop B, Mel was instrumental in guiding and supporting my career. He always had my back and the backs of everybody else in blue even if we didn’t deserve it. Mel saw the best in people even when others couldn’t. This is because he was his own man and judged each person and situation with measure. I put Mel at the top for the best police I ever worked with in my career. I can hear his laugh (even though it was often at me) and see his easy smile. I can also hear him telling me to calm down when I may have gotten a little to big for my own britches and he had to reel me back in. I learned so much from him - some through his direction but more often through observing him. He was an incredible man and leader. He loved his family and he loved us. What more can I say except my deepest and most sincere sympathy for his family and all of us. We lost someone special
Mel was a core member of every Secret Service protective operation in the State of Louisiana for as long as I can remember. He was respected for his knowledge and loved for his trustworthiness and professionalism. Mel distinguished himself among his peers. Rest In Peace good brother.
