Cocodrie Fishing Trip and Mosquitoes:
Larry, our friend, you will always be remembered with a smile on our face. You were a good man, a great patriarch and a better husband but a terrible buyer of mosquito spray.
One summer weekend, Larry, his brother in law Don Drone and I went down to the camp. The first day was decent fishing but the mosquitoes and gnats were eating us up, no matter what we had put on.
The next morning we stopped at the bait shop to replenish our minnows and Larry got into a conversation with the lady behind the counter on what was a good repellent for the mosquitoes, so she pulls out this secret bottle of spray and convinces Larry this would stop them in their tracks and always works. Of course, Larry bought it!
He came back to the boat and swore this stuff is our savior, with a huge grin on his face. So we all soaked ourselves with this spray (the sweetest smelling mosquito spray you have every smelt). We took off to our first stop and within 30 seconds of stopping, the attach of the mosquitoes and gnats began. It was like they were feasting on a T-Bone steak fresh off the grill.
We could not wash this stuff off fast enough but I can tell you we were the sweetest smelling boat on the water that day. We all could not stop laughing about this. We figured when Larry told us how much he paid for it, we could have bought about 200 more minnows to fish with that day.
The bottle of spray is and has been sitting on the counter at the camp for the last 5 years and no one has used it since.
So for everyone that goes fishing in Cocodrie at the camp, Larry has provided a everlasting laugh for us when you see the bottle sitting on the counter. Thanks, Larry
Again, thanks for the memories and we will miss you.
