I met Larry in the mid 1980's at a Charity Golf Outing. One handshake & he would forever know your name. He was so driven about all his causes and knew how best to open your wallet "Wide"!
For several years after, I would see Larry at his golf shop in Mandeville and would always leave after spending more than I budgeted for & feeling great about it. That was Larry! In a good way, he was the smoothest sales person I ever met; so happy, always smiling & so so convincing. His shop was a great hangout for the local golf crowd & their tall tales & sometimes more than a few beers.
In 1992 I helped to consolidate the corporate headquarters of Zen-Noh Grain Corp. & Consolidated Grain & Barge Co. to Mandeville. At that time it was decided that we needed a "Sales" type person on our team to grow our business beyond grain & barge handling & trading. We started the search for that person.
In 1993 a couple of us ran into Larry at a charity golf outing that he was raising money for. As our wallets opened wide, the lights came on: HIRE LARRY - he was the local boy, He knew the St. Paul's "Handshake" & was an LSU alumni. The man knew how to successfully network & get things done locally & statewide.
Larry was instrumental in helping our grain companies gain access into the steel & pig iron import-export & transportation businesses. Starting with a few ideas & goals, he made it "RAIN"!
Soon Larry's local & state connections grew to the national level. His charisma & talent allowed him to open many more doors & work with leaders on either side of the isle to get things done for our companies. He was greatly admired by his ZGC-CGB Family.
To me & I know many others, if you needed business or personal help or advise, he was more than an associate, he was a friend. A friend that would take the time to listen, grab a beer or a round of golf with, then always offer his help & candid advice. No matter how busy, Larry would take the time! Thank you Laurie for sharing him!
Ellie, Libby, Jessica, & I will dearly miss him, but know memories of him will always bring us a laugh or smile. That's Larry!
Our sincere thoughts & prayers for Larry, Laurie & his loving & caring family,
Gary & Ellie Wunsch
