Lawrence Reuben King Jr.'s Obituary
Lawrence Reuben King Jr., at the age of 85, gracefully entered the eternal gates of heaven on Monday, July 27, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on June 11, 1941, in New Orleans, Louisiana.
He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Pauline Myers King; his children, Karen Jarrell (Earl Jarrell, Jr.), Laura Thompson, Linda LaPlante, and Kristine Smith; 16 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Glenn King; his niece, Lacey Blackwell; and wonderful lifelong friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elsie Reagan and Lawrence King Sr.
Larry graduated from Holy Cross High School where he was a standout quarterback. He also held the record for the javelin throw for quite a while. After high school, he continued to play football as both offensive and defensive end at Southeastern Louisiana University (SLU) where he studied Industrial Technology. After college, he went to work for several companies before opening his own business called Earth, Inc.
He loved to fish, hunt, and play golf any time he could get on the course! In his spare time at home, you could find him watching movies or sports on TV, and if he happened to come across it on the channel, even Bob Ross! He was amazed by that man’s talent. He also loved to travel and take his grandchildren to Disney World. He enjoyed watching SEC football and of course, his alma mater, SLU Football.
Larry had great sense of humor and was always telling or pulling some kind of joke. He was always there to lend a helping hand and his expertise, but the thing he was most proud of was all his loving children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Lawrence’s life will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the Carriage House, 39682 John Wild Road, Ponchatoula, LA 70454.
