Lauren Marie Cosgriff's Obituary
Lauren “Laurie” Marie Cosgriff, 78, of Mandeville, LA passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 2, 2023. She was born in Lancaster, New York on September 12, 1945.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 50 years, Dr. Thomas Cosgriff and her daughter, Amanda Cosgriff-Burchfield (Collin). She is also survived by her siblings, June Waldmiller and Kenneth “Kenny” Gesse, and nieces, nephews, cousins, and wonderful lifelong friends.
Laurie was preceded in death by her parents Gordon and Alberta Gesse; and siblings Robert Gesse, Marcia Gesse, Ethel Hendershot, George Gesse (Julia), Gordon Gesse Jr. (Marilyn), and Ruby Gesse.
A native of Lancaster, and proud resident of Mandeville for 30 years, Laurie earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1970. She was an outstanding nurse for 20 years which included critical care, infection control and clinical research. She worked for the Veterans Administration for most of her career. Although she loved her career as a Registered Nurse, she cherished her time raising her daughter and was proud of the woman she has become.
Laurie enjoyed going to Blue Mountain Beach, traveling the world with her husband, and trying the newest restaurants. She had a passion for murder mystery novels, good wine, and good food. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her and loved her.
The family wishes to thank everyone who was involved in her care, including Dr. Jack Saux III and Sydney Fabian Fussell, PA, as well as the many nurses and staff at Mary Bird Perkins, especially Logan Encar and Gina Steber. Your compassion and excellent care were very much appreciated. We would also like to thank the staff at Vital Care Hospice, including Alexis Wortman, Dee Alexander and Carissa Herhuth who provided outstanding care and who were tremendous support in Laurie’s final days. Lastly, thank you to the many loving people who helped care for Laurie, cooked, provided meals, and prayed for her and her family – your support and compassion will be forever in the hearts of the family.
Interment will take place privately at a later time. The family will be hosting a celebration of life at their home on Saturday, December 9th.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to Mary Bird Perkins in Covington, LA to fight cancer. Please go to www.MaryBird.org/give to donate in Lauren Cosgriff’s memory.
