Laura Mary Gibson's Obituary
Laura Mary Pusey Gibson, age 95, entered eternal rest peacefully on December 10, 2024. She was born in Ponchatoula, LA on October 28, 1929 to Wilson T. Pusey and Myrtle M. Ozment. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Alvin Gibson, on April 2, 2022 after 71 years of marriage. Laura is survived by her beloved children, Barbara Gibson Dragg (Johnny), Ellen Gibson Landry, and Daniel Gibson (Sharon). She is also survived by five grandchildren, Angela Dragg Fletcher (Robert), Jeffrey Dragg (Amber), Lindsey Landry Edmond (John), Lise Landry Joffrion (Matthew), and Sarah Gibson Manguno (Scott), as well as ten great grandchildren, Mackenzie, Cooper, Jaxon, Jack, Grace, Paul, William, Luke, Scarlett, and Molly.
Laura grew up in Ponchatoula, LA and went off to college at Saint-Mary-of-the-Woods College in Indiana where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree with honors and then became a certified medical technician. She returned to Louisiana where she married Alvin in 1951 and dedicated her life to raising their three children and supporting Alvin’s career as an attorney. She was a long time resident of Covington and resided for the past 8 years at Christwood Retirement Community.
Laura was an amazing, strong, and caring woman and a totally devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She cherished every family member and was so proud of them and their accomplishments. She was always supportive and involved in all aspects of her family’s life. She served in many leadership capacities at the schools they attended, and was always there for every ball game, dance recital, school program, award ceremony, and graduation. Christmas was her favorite time of year, and she made every one feel special. She spent many hours collecting unique and personal gifts for everyone, but her greatest gift to her family was her unconditional love, wisdom, and joy.
She had a wicked sense of humor and was fun to be around. Her smile lit up the room wherever she went. She enjoyed golf, especially competing in tournaments, and solving crossword and jigsaw puzzles. She was a voracious reader, and loved birds and flowers. She was an incredible cook and seamstress, and knitted and crocheted beautiful sweaters, scarves, and afghans. She loved music, particularly the big band music of Glenn Miller and Tommy Dorsey. One of her great passions was LSU football and baseball, and she could analyze the games as well as the best sports broadcasters.
Laura will be forever loved and cherished by her family and all who knew her. They will miss her terribly but are comforted by a lifetime of wonderful memories.
The family is so appreciative of the care given to her by everyone at Christwood, especially those who cared for her daily in Assisted Living the last few years. They helped to fill the void left by the death of her husband Alvin, and they became a second family to her.
