Larry Champagne's Obituary
Larry Champagne of Covington, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2026, at the age of 78. Larry was born December 1, 1947, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to Joseph “Mickey” Champagne Jr. and Audrey Carey Champagne.
He is preceded in death by his parents as well as three siblings, Michael Joseph Champagne, Jon Shepherd Champagne, and Audrey Michon Champagne.
Larry married Vivian Johnette Garnett Champagne in 1969 and settled in Covington, where he remained a resident throughout his life. In addition to his loving wife, Larry is survived by his children Lise Champagne Morrow (Will) and Jeremy Champagne (Dawn), and grandchildren John and Vivian Morrow and Jacob Champagne, and brother, Joel Champagne (Jill), as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He attended St. Paul’s School in Covington (Class of 1965) and earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Louisiana State University in 1970. Larry went on to a broad career that included time in the family business selling Budweiser, banking at American Bank and Trust, and a Real Estate Executive and Investor at Keller Williams Realty. Larry was both a serious accounting/finance mind and a true people person known for friendly and close relationships across any organization where he worked.
Larry loved to enjoy life with family and friends. He was a true gentleman who lifted others with kindness. He had a great joy for life, and he was passionate about football and baseball (particularly LSU), fishing, entertaining, wine, and enjoying all of these things with family and friends. His favorite pastime was hosting and serving as the bartender for all who came by, and he was known for having a warm smile that could light up a room. But Larry’s biggest passion was his family, whom he loved and cherished deeply.
Larry’s health declined significantly in recent years, and his family echoes his gratitude to all of his friends and relations who visited and brought joy and comfort to Larry. The caregivers at Avanti Senior Living in Covington showed incredible compassion, brought so much dignity during Lawrence's final days, and will be remembered and appreciated by his loved ones for their efforts.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 West 21st Avenue, Covington, Louisiana, on July 11, 2026, at 2:00 PM, with visitation from 12:00pm-2:00pm. Interment to follow in the adjacent Pinecrest Memorial Gardens.
