It is an honor to speak about a man who was not only a mentor but a steady anchor in an ever-shifting world. Since he hired me back in 1976, we navigated three different companies and two decades of professional life together. He was a man of firm, perhaps inflexible, convictions—but that rigidity was forged in the rarest of metals: absolute honesty, unwavering fidelity, and a principled conservatism.
For over 50 years, Maureen was his heartbeat. His pride in Alicia, Kurt, Ben Joe, Kate and Marty manifested in a smile each time he spoke of them. He lived his values through his loyalty to his family and his word.
While we mourn his absence, we can find peace in the destination he has now reached. As Richard Jefferies once wrote:
“It is eternity now. I am in the midst of it. It is about me in the sunshine; I am in it as the butterfly in the light-laden air. Nothing has to come; it is now. Now is eternity; now is the immortal life.”
He has stepped out of the constraints of time and fully into that light. He leaves us with the legacy of a life well-lived, a marriage admired by all, and a handshake that meant more than any legal contract.
