Kristopher Scott Hackney's Obituary
It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Kristopher Scott Hackney, age 47, on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, in Covington, Louisiana. Born on November 17, 1977, in Metairie, Louisiana, to Deborah Macholl and Scott Hackney, Kristopher was a lively, blonde-haired boy, full of energy and joy. As a child, he loved playing outside with neighborhood friends, often spinning around on his big-wheel bike. His passion for life continued as he grew older, eventually leading him to pursue his dream of becoming an offshore helicopter pilot.
Tragically, just as Kristopher’s career was taking flight, his health began to falter. He experienced debilitating migraines and muscle spasms that ultimately ended his dreams of flying. Despite these challenges, Kristopher showed incredible resilience. He spent years visiting doctors and undergoing countless tests. Through all his challenges, it was his faith in Jesus that gave Kristopher the strength to endure and keep moving forward.
Kristopher’s spiritual journey flourished at Cornerstone Church in Mandeville, Louisiana, where his connection to Jesus grew stronger over time. Pastor Tony Shreffler recognized something special in Kristopher and sponsored him to attend the School of Urban Missions in New Orleans. There, Kristopher received a calling to share God’s love with anyone who would listen. After leaving Cornerstone Church, Kris spent many years attending Church of the King with Pastor Steve Robinson, where he remained a member at the time of his passing. He was passionate about scripture and found joy in sharing his revelations with others. His insights reflected a deep-rooted love for Jesus and a desire to spread His message of love and grace.
Kristopher is survived by his loving parents, Deborah Macholl and Scott Hackney; his partner, Eileen Ordonez; and her daughter, Gabriella Birkhoff, whom Kristopher lovingly mentored and guided. He was proud to share his knowledge of basketball, fishing, and, most importantly, his deep faith in Jesus with Gaby. He watched with joy as Gaby grew, celebrating her accomplishments and looking forward to the bright future that lay ahead for her. Similarly, Kristopher valued his friends deeply, considering them to be one of the most important aspects of his life.
Kristopher was a thoughtful and articulate man with an ability to express complex ideas with clarity. He loved writing and listening to music, often sharing his lyrics with close friends and offering them a glimpse into his heart. He also had a gift for fixing things, whether it was disassembling and rebuilding cars or offering a compassionate ear to those in need. Kristopher especially enjoyed capturing the breathtaking sunsets over Lake Ramsey. His last sunset photo, shared with friends, was accompanied by the words, “God is an artist…keep showing off, please!!!”
Kristopher is also survived by his sister, Kimberly Tweedel (Brett); his brother, Matthew Hackney (Morgan); his nephew, Jakob; and his beloved nieces, Abigail and Brooke. Additionally, he leaves behind an extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, and lifelong friends who will miss his kindness, humor, and unwavering friendship.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Jacqueline Harwood Macholl Hamilton (John); his paternal grandparents, Mark and Wilma Hackney; and his uncle, Louis "Rusty" Macholl. Kristopher was also preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Louis Macholl, and his aunt, Diane Macholl Weidert, who passed before he was born.
Though Kristopher’s time with us was far too short, his legacy lives on through the love, compassion, and unwavering faith he demonstrated throughout his life. While his passing has left a void in the hearts of all who loved him, we find comfort knowing that he is now surrounded by his loving Heavenly Father and that his pain and physical ailments are gone. Peace now prevails in his life, and Kris would want us to know that he hopes we all make the choice to follow Jesus. Kris’s love and spirit will continue to guide us, and his memory will forever remain in our hearts.
Friends of Kristopher are welcomed with open arms by his family, and relatives and friends are invited to gather with the family for Kristopher’s celebration of life at E.J.
