Kathleen Joyce Picou Flynn's Obituary
Our Mother, Kathleen Joyce Picou Flynn went to Heaven peacefully on November 30th 2009 at 8:55 am in her home with her children at her bedside.
She began her life’s Journey August 27th, 1930 in Bayou Blue, LA. Joyce (as she is commonly known) graduated from Charity School of Nursing in New Orleans, LA in 1949 at the young age of 18. She worked as a Registered Nurse for many years at Charity Hospital, in New Orleans, in the Diebert Clinic-TB ward and later became the Director of Nursing at St. Ann’s Convalescent Home on Mehle Ave. in Arabi, LA. She went on to earn her Nursing Home Administrators license and managed Maison Hospitliere in the French Quarter for 17 years. Joyce was the most organized, efficient and caring RN/Administrator and was sorely missed when she retired. She also loved to travel with Jack, her husband, especially to Ireland.
She was preceded in death by: her husband of 52 wonderful years-John (Jack) Michael Flynn, Jr. (she was his heart), her mother-Adele J. Buchanan Picou Basford White, her father-Oliver Joseph Picou, Sr. and her little brother-Oliver J. Picou, Jr.
She is survived by her seven children and their spouses; Diana F. Breen, Kathy F. Fresko (& Emmanuel), Kevin Flynn (& Pam), Mary F. Campo (& Nick), Patricia F. Parr (& Nicky), Brian Flynn (& Logan) and Michael Flynn (& Cathy). Sixteen grandchildren and their spouses; Bonnie, Bill (& Chantal), Anthony (& Shannon), Kelly, Nicky, Adam, Bridget (& Jeff), Patrick, Sean, Ryan, Devin, Mallory, Brendan, Brady, Bailey and Evan. Six great-grandchildren; Gabriele, Sasha, Therese, Mary Francis, Benjamin and Avery. Also-Moxie- her beloved Chihuahua.
Mama Joycie may God hold you in the palm of His hand until we meet again-love you always.
Services will be on Thursday, December 3, 2009 at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church, 20370 Smith Rd., Covington, LA. Visitation starts at 10 am, Mass at 11 am, followed by her burial next to her husband in the Mary Queen of Peace Cemetery near Terra Mariae. All are invited to celebrate Joyce’s life at a reception in the main hall of the church.
